Holiday weekend...........which means the Summer is........OVER......... Here's wishing everyone within the Canyon a "safe holiday weekend"...........and squeezing every ounce of summer out of it!! I don't know when the recognition of summer ending, has been so apparent to me, as this one. It seems the cool nights, which have developed (some times) are a welcome change from the temperatures we have experienced throughout the last 3 months. Tomorrow and next week, takes me to Ruidoso, New Mexico, so it has been strange to pack long bluejeans, a rain jacket, and socks for the coolness of mountain air. Viewing the last Quarterhorse race of the season is always a pleasure (or at least has been for the last 25 years).... and if the color of my horse doesn't win, then I'll choose by name on the next race. As you can see, my "picking of horses" is a very scientific method, and the "winnings" is secondary to enjoyment of the moment of watching the race! So, these are my plans for the ending of the summer; and I trust that each family in Ransom has a "fun weekend" planned. ********************************************* Boat dock is finished................. So, as you safely enter and exit your boat in the water; please think about the POA Board, and their decision to see that it was done. Remember these items "do not JUST HAPPEN".........SOMEONE HAS TO SEE THAT IT IS DONE....... These are reminders that the activities, and fundraisers that are being planned are to benefit all of us......... and depending upon the project.........some more than others!! And............as to the $5200.00 cost......well, it was NOT budgeted, so contributions, either direct to this need, or to future activities are greatly appreciated, so that projects that need to be done...........can be done!! Thank you for considering all or any items that you participate in............for our community. Because YOU benefit as well!!! And it is fun, as well!! ***************************************************** REMEMBER.............TO WATCH YOUR WATER BILL............. For updates from the City of Ransom Canyon.........street repair...........and updating............ And, from Murvat............and if you do not have the notice, check out the website: www.ci.ransom-canyon.tx.us *************************** JACKIE, WOULD YOU LET EVERYONE KNOW THAT THEY CAN CALL ME, BEFORE SEPT.6 AND LET ME KNOW IF THEY WOULD LIKE THEIR NAME AND BIRTHDAY, FAMILY’S BIRTHDAY/ANNIVERSARIES/MEMORIALS ETC. PLACED IN THE SLATONITE (ON THE FRONT PAGE,LEFT HAND COLUMN)? WE ASK FOR A DOLLAR FOR EACH ENTRY TO RAISE MONEY FOR ST. JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC SCHOOL. IF THEY WOULD LIKE TO PURCHASE THE CALENDAR THEY ARE PUBLISHED IN, IT WILL COST AN ADDITIONAL $8.00. MY CELL PHONE IS 777-1465. I ALSO WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THEIR CONCERN AND PRAYERS FOR MY MOM AND DAD (CLAUDE AND DONNA RICKS), THESE LAST 8 MONTHS. THANK YOU, GAYLA BUXKEMPER ############################################################### computer........training, learning..........at the Ranch House....October? no charge... Are you interested? I will pass on the info, to the person willing to do so. And, thanks, to the person who put info regarding the Lubbock Libraries having computer classes at two different branches. This might fit some's schedule, however the drive to these locations, is quite different than to our Ranch House. Call me if I can help. 543-7089.. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Boating..........reminder................there are many who live in a "no wake zone"..........so as you, or your guests are enjoying the boating on our lake, please remember, or remind others of the speed, sound, and waves created by high speeds.........................requested from residents............ Last weekend of swimming........coming up!!!!......including Monday Sept. 6th..... To those of you who provided "ad dollars", to those who gave a little cash.........to Joe and Shawnda for their wonderful "management of our pool"...........and to the Lifeguards, who kept everyone safe. Indeed, we are very grateful to each; and very thankful to the POA Board for seeing that each challenge is addressed and handled in the best possible way. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Reminder.........of the Ranch House being closed Sept. 7th thru Sept 23rd....to receive a new floor!!! Most especially on Community Day, make note of these days.....and will re-open in time for Fall Festival!!! The New floor..........is going to be great..........so, make plans to come see during our Fall Festival the dates are: Sept 24th...........evening event..........and all day on Sept. 25th........ One of our residents, is wanting to employ someone........could it be you??? We need a loving babysitter for a very special autistic boy (Zach) and his sister. We prefer someone who can pick the kids up from Roosevelt (at 3:30 p.m.) and stay with them for a few hours, &/or shuttle them to activities or to Mom's workplace. This is a part-time job, as we only need the help when Dad is on business trips. $10/hr + gas money when running kids to Lubbock. If interested, call Missy at 241-7328. Computer help.........anyone???? Email me back.......to let me know..... After posting a need for computer help; I received a phone call from someone who does provide, training, evaluations and other aspects of computer needs. Our discussion lead to questions about whether or not some of you would like to have a "question and answer session" at the Ranch Houser regarding your individual computer needs. This particular session would be "free of charge" to those who attend. So, we are looking at Tuesday, October 12th - COMMUNITY DAY - as we have no scheduled game players on that day. If you have an interest in my pursuing this, please email back, so we can determine how many would be interested in us providing such a session at the Ranch House. Some in the Canyon has had success with using this person in their personal computer needs; so it could be beneficial to many. Please let me know..........and I will move on...........to set-up an afternoon session. ********************************************************** Jackie, The regular city council meeting for September (14th) will be cancelled. Instead, we will be having a meeting on September 21st. this happens every September and is necessary to accommodate the tax and budget adoption timeline set out by the state. The agenda will be posted on the web-site and the notice of cancellation of the regular meeting will also be posted. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NEWS.........NEWS..........NEWS........(FOR EARLY MORNING)....FRIDAY The plane will spray for mosquitoes tomorrow morning, Friday, August 27th – weather permitting. Notes from our residents....... Please remind our residents that all of us enjoy the beauty of the Canyon. Many of us walk or ride bikes in the Canyon. Please remember to "Slow down" as you approach your neighbors walking or riding a bike. Recently some driver failed to slow for a pedestrian - one of our Canyon ducks - and squashed her on the dam. What a shame that we are in such a hurry to get somewhere that we can't slow for the wildlife that shares the Canyon with us. So please be courteous and SLOW DOWN! We all want to enjoy our Canyon! Also remind your contractors and visitors to drive slow in the Canyon. Thanks - Your neighbor - Alexia Green ################################## Street repair...........maybe 30th... If you have questions, please call Carla at 829-2132, with any questions. BOOTHS STILL AVAILABLE...........IN THE OUTSIDE.. For the Fall Festival, scheduled for Sept. 24th..........the evening "Sneak Preview".......and all day on Saturday, 25th. We are having a great response, and still welcome you, or friends of yours, who might want to have a booth outside, under the "overhang" of the Ranch House. Remember, many children's activities are planned.........and REMEMBER, there is not a Texas Tech Football game this weekend................so, we expect to see you here. Baked goods...................we need them........from YOU..........brownies, cakes, pies, cookies..........the Ladies Luncheon group is co-ordinating this, and welcomes your "baked goods" contribution.......... Call Jane Shipley 829-2187 to let her know that you will be bringing your items. Ranch House - new floor.... As an FYI........for any plans, normally held at the Ranch House; we will not be using the Ranch House from September 7th til September 24th......as our new floor is installed. The requirement to pull up the old one....prepare for the new one, and installation of the new one requires many days of us being off of it. And, it will be well worth it, as we plan for our fall activities...........and New Year's Eve celebration!! POA website.....want ads............ If you want to list services in the Want ads section, to our residents, in the POA website, please contact Betty Catherman at 829-2746. This is at no cost to our residents; and is a great resource place for you to go offer or find what you might use within our Canyon. If you want to list your business, with a logo and have "advertising" for it; then the cost of posting the ad for a year is $250.00. Also contact Betty for this; and the check needs to be mailed to the Ransom Canyon POA - Box A - Lake Shore Drive, Ramson Canyon, 79366. New Name in the column......coming soon, Mary Benton has agreed to write the column for the Slatonite, beginning September 1st. She has been in the Canyon a few years, and has written in other ways previously; so we welcome the "help, difference of opinion, and other additions that she will be bringing into your reading pleasure". She will be introducing herself to you, thru her writing; and you may contact her by phone 806-790-1026 or 806-771-7704 or mailing something to 11 Navajo - Ransom............. Thanks Mary for your willingness to help us out!!! Beautiful foxes, on Sunday morning........... That is what we saw on the deck on Sunday morning at the Chapel...........what a site it was, with the coats, oh so pretty, with the fine, petite features, of male and female..........and so comfortable in their own setting..........walking around, sniffing the air....and with their ears pointing straight up, for any noise, that might get their attention!! I cannot imagine how much wildlife some of you have seen in the past 20 years...........as it seems the deer, and their young, spotted by myself last week...............and the "large cat" seen by others recently.....are still in possession of their lands. It is a true reminder of "why we like living in Ransom Canyon"...... Right? Congratulations.........to Lyle Way, and Dr. Terry Gage.... For their "book signing" at Barnes and Nobles over the weekend. Lyle Way, our very own, Christian Novelist...........is very proud to have co-authored the book with Dr. Gage most recently. "The Day of the Lord", was highlighted in the A.J. on Saturday, in case you missed it. I recommend it; and know that it will be making great gifts to friends. Speaking of authors.......... Elleta Nolte will be autographing "A Place Set Apart" , the story of Ransom Canyon, at our Fall Festival; so plan on coming picking up a copy, and meet the delightful lady. She will welcome your smiling face!! That's it for now................. As Treasurer of your Property Owners Association, for most of you,(others are friends of POA owners) I ask that you let me know if you have another email address that you would prefer your statement for your POA dues be sent. Our Association saves many dollars, in the form of printing and mailings, when we are able to send the statements thru emails, as was begun last year. If the emails keeping you up to date, is sent to one member of the family, I request that you pass it on to the member that handles the bill paying in your household, if it isn't you. Ms. Jackie, had a conversation with Barbara Wilkes yesterday and she said Kala Schropshire has seen The Big Cat over on their side. This is on Arapahoe Road. Due to scheduling at other cities, the streets will not be worked on tomorrow.......it is now planned for the 25th of August............... Other news - I have neglected to send on.... A couple of weeks ago, it was reported to me that some of the rental units, at the (used to be Hughes storage) had some break-ins which happened in some of the units. If you hadn't heard(sorry for the delay) you might want to give yours a check, to see that all is secure. And, I haven't heard more information; but there was a Man's ring found at the pool, so am hoping that the owner was able to find it with Joan. If not, email me, and I will find the number. Reminders & catching up.......... As this email is a "catch up"..........please remember our neighbor, Caprice, who is undergoing the breast cancer surgery and challenges; in prayer, and in financial help, if you are able to do that. Also, others within our Canyon, who are continually facing health challenges, those named, and those not named. Ranch House rentals...........changes and updates.... The rental of our Ranch House, now has additional perks for you to use with a party or celebration. They are, the new island in the kitchen, and also wine glasses and tablecloths are available to rent. We also have carts to move the chairs very easily, which is appreciated by all that is involved in that process. As you can see, your POA Board has been busy on your behalf, calculating how we can spend our money wisely, and yet additional benefits for you, the residents, as well as our renters. Be sure to check with Shawnda Martin - 470-7726 for other updates, and for dates that you might want to rent our facility. Holidays are coming.................plan ahead of the crowd!!! One of our neighbors.....needs our help; won't you take a few minutes to read this below.... When sending emails; I always take time to say "what if".......what if this is the difference??? Thanks for your time.........Jackie Lindsey - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Mike@IgnitionVisualMedia.com Jackie, I want to reach out to you and see if you might be able to forward this note around the Canyon. I had hoped that we would be able to reach our goals without outside help, and I was hesitant to ask, but Sen. Bill McKibben is helping us with this effort, and told me that I was crazy not to send it out. This is an opportunity to help someone who's fighting for her life, and he says I should give everyone the opportunity to help, since if I don't send it out, they'll never know they are needed.... Give me a call if you'd like to discuss any of this; while the RC VFD is going to do a fundraiser for her soon, it won't be in time to meet this goal and have this major, critical surgery done next week. Mike Meier 775 622 5411 Text of the letter attached: I am raising funds on behalf of my dearest friend and partner, Caprice Carmona, who was diagnosed in June with breast cancer. We are reaching out to our friends, family, and everyone we can, because things are moving along too quickly for us to handle on our own. When she received the diagnosis of non-invasive DCIS, we believed this had been detected early, giving us time to establish a plan, and raise the money needed ourselves. But with every step, the situation gets more critical – now confirmed Stage 2A and likely Stage 3 invasive - and the need to get this monster out of her body becomes more urgent. Time is of the essence, and she needs to have the initial surgery to get the cancer out as fast as possible. We have scheduled this for Aug. 17th and need to raise a minimum of $30K to make it happen. From the start, as the doctors realized her position – no medical insurance and raising the money ourselves - they showed a generosity and concern that was beyond anything we could have expected. I want to give my deepest appreciation to them; first Dr. Lillian Chou of the Lubbock Breast Center, who we turned to for the MRI and ultrasound. To Dr. Steven Harms, the radiologist who brilliantly interpreted the results of the MRI. To her primary surgeon, the amazing Dr. Kristi Funk of the Pink Lotus Breast Center in Los Angeles (Caprice, a huge Lance Armstrong fan for over a decade, located Dr. Funk after searching for the physician who treated Sheryl Crow and knew after their first conversation that she was “the one”), and to Dr. Jay Orringer, her plastic/reconstructive surgeon for his generosity and bedside manner. From day one, their primary goal has been to keep her alive. They have arranged for a key medical supplier to donate the materials needed, and have drastically reduced their professional fees. They have been available to Caprice at a moment’s notice whenever she has a question or concern. They’ve shown me that angels truly walk among us, and I am grateful that fate has brought them into our lives. This first operation is the biggest expense, and will give us time to get into some good programs if chemo and radiation are needed. Most of the funds needed now are for the cost of the surgical center, anesthesia, and pathology. Please, time is of the essence. She is scheduled for surgery for Aug. 17th and we need to raise a minimum of $30K to make it happen. We are working on donations, which include the local fire department holding a fundraiser in a few weeks, several music groups have offered their time and help by performing benefits, but so much of this won't happen fast. This is going to be at least a six month battle for her, but part one, and the most important, is to get this thing out of her body. Ten days is the target. The cancer is growing, it's been detected in the sentinel lymph node (2 of the 4 taken were affected) so they plan to take 6 additional nodes on the 17th to determine how far it has spread. To donate: A fund has been set up where you can make a deposit at any Wells Fargo branch. Just walk in, or go online, to donate to the "Caprice Carmona Breast Cancer Fund". Donations can also be made by credit or debit card through PayPal. Simply go to PayPal.com and enter: Caprice@IgnitionVisualMedia.com as the recipient. It doesn't matter if it's $1, $50, or $30,000, every dime helps. No amount is too small to make a BIG difference. Thank you so much for being in our lives. Together, we can do this! Regards, Mike Meier 775 622 5411 Mike@IgnitionVisualMedia.com Jackie De Vore Lindsey 10 West Canyonview Drive Ransom Canyon, Texas 79366 h- 806-829-2519 c-806-543-7089 Summer time........and "the living is easy".....have a great day!!!!

I'm thinking this is a great way to have a party...........and wonder who else wants to rent the Ranch House, and use the same idea???? Give Shawnda Martin a call - 470-7726, to check out the calendar schedule. Speaking of calendar schedules............ Now is a great time to think about booking your "Holiday party"....as we want to have Family parties...Corporations Holiday gatherings, Christmas style weddings, and other memorable happenings. We're still looking.........for booth renters.... for the Fall Festival; and would like to have a great selection of vendors for each to view, as they enjoy seeing friends and neighbors. We are not hosting garage sales during this event; as last year many holding these garage sales were not able to come enjoy the Fall Festival (mainly as they were too tired, after their sale) So, don't forget to make plans to be at the Ranch House on Sept. 25th. As Mary Brown says, from the City offices, "mosquitos are everywhere"....so there will be another fogging tonight............Monday, August 2nd. Thanks to the City for continually trying to keep up with our "problem" of mosquitos. YES, WE ARE GRATEFUL... With all of the publicity of the pool incident, regarding Rope Miller, a guest at the Ransom Canyon POA pool, we are indeed grateful to God, and those who were responsible for the saving of Rope's life. We continue to seek prayers for his continued recovery and safety. Thanks to the Lifeguards, to Shawnda and Joe Martin, Pool Managers, and to Bob Bellah, with our First Responders, for their clear-thinking and "correct procedures" which were done in order that a wonderful ending was able to occur. As was said, by one of the Lifeguards; "this is what our training is all about" and it is a lot more than sitting in the chair; it is watching every move to make sure that safety is number one. Thanks, also, to Pat Sykora, or President for his "being there" to guide, after the initial event. The pool is a committment from the POA and residents, to be enjoyed by those who come; and this summer many have contributed to "seeing that it happened". Within the committment; safety is uppermost in everyone's mind. Thanks again to all; and we do hope that you will be sure to pass on your "thanks" and praises to all involved. PARTY TIME..........SATURDAY NIGHT, AUGUST 7TH........AT THE RANCH HOUSE... Don't forget it is this Saturday, that Phyllis Lutrick is celebrating her birthday; and you and your family are invited to come. She has arranged for the Volunteer Fire Department to cater the event; so from 5:30 to 6:30, her family reunion will be participating and being served first. Then all others within the Canyon are invited to "hamburgers, hot dogs and fixins" for a DONATION to the Fire Dept. (so remember to bring cash or checkbook) Then.........the band of Rex Thomas will be playing for the evening, and those who want to participate in the dancing (bring a donation, in lieu of a gift for Phyllis) and this donation will go to the POA....per her request!! (She has everything she needs...right???) I believe this will be a great summer evening to enjoy, not only with Phyllis and her family, but with the rest of our neighbors within the Canyon. So....ya'all come. See you there! So, with this kind of birthday celebration; and bringing benefits to the Fire Department, plus the POA, we can truly be glad to see "the Ranch House" full to the brim!!! OTHER HAPPENINGS........... August 3rd - Community Day - Bridge Club Members - come on down........... Every Tuesday......all are welcome.... Others will be having lunch around noon - bring a sandwich & join the fun! Have you RSVP'd for Thursday???? If not, there is still time for you to make it to : Lyle Way's Bookreading & Autograph Party Thursday - July 22nd - 2:00 - 4:00 Come by for coffee & dessert - 10 West Canyon View Drive - Ransom Canyon - 829-2519 - Jackie Lindsey If your schedule does not allow you to come, please feel free to call Lyle, and ask to see his books; He will welcome the call. - 745-8321 Calico cat.....lost?.....well, it is found.....and now it's back home...again... June Walker - had a young "teenage" calico cat drop by, Sunday evening, wearing a green rhinestone collar (so she knew it was being missed)..........and it has a white tip on its tail. After she and her family, enjoyed their grilling, with the cat watching their every move........she assumed that it would be gone come Monday morning.............however, it was still there. So, now we know it belongs to the Wilson family; and is back home again, per June's phone call. What a helpful neighbor that June was! Maybe the grilling fragrance, was just too enticing for the cat to pass. Thanks, June, for helping out your neighbor; that is what Ransom Canyon is all about!! Gazebo repair talents???? It seems our Canyon is filled with many talented people..............so therefore, the search for someone to help repair the roof on the gazebo, at the park on Parklane..........seems appropriate. Carol Farris, and her committee, who has worked many, many years, to maintain the park, are looking for someone who is willing to step up, and help out. Maybe that is not your specialty, but you would like to help out in some way.....just give her a call at 829-2637. Mexican train.............dominos.... Maralyn Butler, Hostess for the monthly Mexican Train Domino Club, has asked that I remind players of the gathering, on Tuesday, July 27th, at the Ranch House - time is 1:00 p.m. If others are interested, (I don't know how this works) please call Maralyn; and she can fill you in....748-7121. Phyliss's - 60th Birthday Bash.... Don't forget.......August 7th...7:30, at the Ranch House. Phyliss has a great reason to celebrate........and we, the POA Board has reason to celebrate as well. She has graciously requested that you not bring a gift to her; but instead, make a financial donation to the POA, in her honor! We are, of course, thrilled at the idea, and request that you give generously to come enjoy the evening....and the Rex Thomas music will be the background........for such a wonderful evening. I plan to be there....and hope you will, too! BYOB.....and your party shoes!!! 84 degrees............ Pool Manager, Shawnda Martin, says the pool temperature is 84...........and reminds you to come join in the fun.........with your children, grandchildren...........as summer is slipping by, daily. Please accept this as a BIG "thank you" to all of those who donated toward the slide; the amounts added up, $20 here, $50 there........and an even larger amount of $500.00............all of that made it possible to order and receive the slide in a pretty quick time frame. Thanks again..........on behelf of the children who are enjoying it daily. Please know that YOUR POA Board is grateful for the quick response to the Community need. Library Reading club...... Next week, we will have names of winners .....and of course, all who read books this summer are winners, because the time is well spent - to expand minds, brighten horizens, and challenge the children to learn even when school is not in session. Some of the best learning happens, when all are relaxed, and open to new ideas! Thanks to Kim Copeland, Librarian, and all of the Board, who put time and effort into our library program! City Ordinances No. 40 and No. 148... At the City Council meeting on July 13th..I requested copies of these two Ordinances, and, you, also may receive copies of them, by calling City Hall - 829-2470; or email me, and I will email to you. These two ordinances are relative to the "dogs and cats" owned by residents of Ransom,No 148 and No. 40 explains the "weeds, rubbish and trash" policy of our town. I believe " knowing the policy" is our individual responsibility.........and it is my understanding that these Ordinances are being evaluated; so if you have questions, and or suggestions, ATTENDING THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING.....would be advised. Perhaps a call to City Hall would be appropriate, if you would like to be placed on the agenda. Ragtown Gospel Theater in Post..... Have you heard about "The Antioch Challenge"?......being presented currently at the Ragtown Theater? Did you know this Theater is owned and produced by our own Chip and Glenn Polk? Right here...in Ransom Canyon? Yes, it is so.......and this is ONE MORE example of the many talented individuals that live within our midst! As a brief overview of this wonderful facility; it is a 400-seat, state of the Art, Theater This is the 11th production at Ragtown - After a long time dream came together. Their emphasis on sharing the Christian dramas, is one of the most innovative Christian entertainment venues. (This is not a Paid announcement).....it is for the pure love of the idea; and how God touches our lives. Tickets are available online at www.ragtown.com or by calling 1-877-ragtown. Performances are Fridays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 3:00 - Adults are $17.50 in advance or $20 at the door; students are $10 and in groups of 12, or more there are discounts..........How about calling 11 friends??? I must admit that my attendance has been lacking; and am hoping to remedy that situation. Glenn, Chip and families.........will welcome your friendly face; and the evening truly will be a special event! Summertime.......ideas.... As you are welcoming guests into Ransom and your home; please remember; Sunday mornings are a great time to bring them to the Chapel for worship (showing off the greenery every chance we get) - 9:30 Coffee is on! The pool open daily, except for Tuesday (this is Shawnda & life guards only day off). If you have a season pass and have purchased a key; then adults can swim when the pool is closed. Pool parties can be arranged, and if the party is quite large; can require more life guards. The Ranch House is available for rent - Sundays - 5 Hour special - for showers, birthday parties, etc. - $ 300.00; call Shawnda - 470-7726. Fishing? ...boating? need a boat slip? Shawnda can help you out - see what is left. CHRISTMAS PARTIES.................... (I know it is July)....when is a better time, than now; to book your Christmas party, early...........for family?.........for corporate parties?.........dates are still open..... Calendar....dates....to remember.... August 7th - Birthday Bash - 7:30 - Ranch House August 10th - City Council Mtg - City Hall - 7:00 p.m. August 2nd - Chapel Board Mtg - Linda Williams, Pres. - 829- 2172 August 17th - POA Board Mtg - Pat Sykora, Pres. 549-3011 August 17th - Ladies Luncheon - TBA September - 24th & 25th - Fall Festival, sponsored by POA - Ranch House (attachment is info about the booths for rent) and, don't forget Community Day...........Tuesdays, at the Ranch House.... until next time..........

Lyle’s most recent book “Junta” is written in a political scenario, in the future…and thru his words, he shares his ideas of how life might be, and how we might “choose” to view it. Other books….are coming soon! Lyle, and his wife, Darlene, live on South Lake Shore And enjoy the quietness that is found here. Great surroundings for an Author! Jackie De Vore Lindsey – 543-7089 or 829-2519 RSVP – please POOL OPEN???? As the rainy days continue; and the sunshine seems a bit sparse, please watch for the flying “flag” on the Island, because that indicates that the pool is open. If you cannot see the pool, from your location, you may call Shawnda, 470-7726. Remember, we depend upon the sunshine to keep our water warm, so some days it might be a bit cool- however, it seems children don’t seem to mind too much!! We know that the sun will shine again….this summer!! SPEAKING OF SUNSHINE…. We, the POA, still have spots open for SPONSORSHIPS of the pool; and with 7 weeks before Labor Day weekend, that is still a lot of exposure for your ad! Please email your company logo and ad to: jackdev05@hotmail.com or call 543-7089 with questions. MOSQUITOS….. Yes, the Chapel of Little Brookhollow, is looking, and asking if someone has “piano playing” ability, and be willing to help out during the Worship Service on Sunday morning. Travels, and other things, interfere with Donna Ricks always being available, on Sunday morning, so we would welcome others who would be willing to help us out. (After all, she too, has a life….and needs some flexibility) Ron Bornick, 745-2901 can be called, and he will be glad to visit with you; or if you have a suggestion, please call him and pass it on. Ransom Canyon News – July 5, 2010 Trash pick-up is delayed 2 1/2 hours...as of now....and City offices are not sure of when it will occur today (as it is trash day-) however, the suggestion is.............please PUT IT OUT............AND LEAVE IT OUT.............. Mosquito spraying was delayed Friday, due to rain....and now, the timing will be up to the weather and scheduling..........of the Plane..........I think.................just listen; and when I know, I will pass it on!! Anyone wishing for rain? Surely not in Ransom Canyon; as the six month supply was deposited in a very short period of time! As everyone knows, the parade was cancelled, except for Ralph and Robbie Carlisle’s granddaughter, Savannah, who enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks to all of the residents who prepared for the parade, and understood when it didn’t occur. Friday night “all American Cook-out”….prepared by your Volunteer Fire Dept. was enjoyed by many, and those not attending, missed lots of neighborly communication. This was a different menu from the “fish fry”.. and appeared to enjoyed by many! What about the “kitchen island”….and other additions to Our Ranch House…..we hope that you noticed the additions, and understand these additions were made possible by the proceeds of the Area-wide Garage Sale!!...... This effort will make a difference in our Ransom Canyon functions, as well as the other events that will be using the facility…. Saturday….BBQ …… The luncheon was a huge success, and those braving the rain were rewarded with a tremendous meal; along with the desserts and salads supplied by our residents. The tickets continued to be sold for the Raffle of the 55 inch TV, by the POA, and the winner was a lady from Levelland. (I believe that Pat Sykora sold the winning ticket). On behalf of the POA, we thank you for your participation, and for all of you who did not win; we THANK YOU, for your trying to win!! I believe the highlight of the day, was watching the children “play in the mud” on the south side of the Ranch House. I am sure the parents were not quite so excited about this; and as for Shawnda and Joe, trying to determine how to smooth out the land surface, after all that playing….well, I think we might have to get creative to take care of that problem. We want to say a special THANK YOU, to Jack and Amy Chapman for the Video Van………..and all the games that were made available to the young people for many hours. Due to the rainy day weather, and them not being able to have the Hampster Ball and Laser Tag; they opted to not charge for the games. So, next time, the Video Van is at the Island, there will be a fee involved, and the POA will benefit in the proceeds. Jack wanted to be more than fair, and we THANK HIM for giving the time of his employees to a wonderful cause of supplying a fun time to the many young people on the holiday. LADIES DAY LUNCHEON…. July 20th ..at the Ranch House.. Martha Summitt, Marty Wells, June Walker and Robbie Carlisle will be the Hostesses this month, at the Ranch House, and invite you to come, bring your covered dish; and enjoy the fellowship! Please call Martha Summitt, at 829-2701, at home, or 829-2828, until 1:00 at the office to let them know that you will be coming, so there will be room for you. If you haven’t been in a while, or never been, please come join us!! SPEAKING OF THE RANCH HOUSE,…… Tuesday, will be the day for you to come join others, either in your Bridge Club, or the Splash Girls, or with others that will be “beading….designing jewelry”…..or just enjoying lunch with friends. Joy Fulton, 829-2765 and Jackie Lindsey, 543-7089 invite you to call either of them, to reserve a spot for larger groups. August 7th – Birthday party….Bash…… Phyliss Lutrick is having a Birthday….and invites YOU to her party!!! (said by the Treasurer of the POA)….so please put It on your calendar, Saturday, August 7th – 7:30 p.m…..BYOB…. MAYBE THIS WILL START A “GREAT TRADITION”……AND OTHERS WILL DO THE SAME!!!! In case you missed the details, the slide is at the pool……and installed in the rain by Joe…. Thanks to all who have contributed……………….. Keep in touch with your news!!!! RANSOMCANYONPOA.ORG THAT IS OUR WEBSITE.....TO FIND MORE DETAILS OUT AND ABOUT THE CANYON. There is much effort put into "keeping all informed"...so please check it out.... and if some of you want to contribute to it.......please contact Betty Catherman... ANOTHER NOTE; about correspondence..... Some of you are aware of the Slatonite column, which reaches many who do not have a computer. This weekly column means a lot to those; and I am looking for someone who would like to write it, pick up the time and "make it your own", with Mr. Jim Davis's approval. Allison's schedule does not permit her to handle it; and we understand, as she is going to school and working. So, story tellers, avid readers, poetry composers, where are you? Please call or email me, and let's discuss how it comes together...............it really is an easy "do"............so come join the fun!!! SPECIAL NOTE;.....REGARDING THE SLIDE!!! It was ordered, has been shipped............and hopefully will be received by July 1st.....and Joe might need some help to install it, so, if you are willing........and have a couple of extra hands..........email me, and I will pass it on...
